Investor Appeals to Cambodia’s Justice Ministry Over YY Capital Allegations

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has asked Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to step in amid a dispute involving the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, citing serious allegations of financial misconduct and breach of trust.

In letters sent to Cambodian authorities, the investor claims he was defrauded and financially harmed through a series of questionable business transactions. The allegations include inflated prices on real estate deals in Cambodia, with preliminary estimates suggesting that around $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain.

The investor also alleges the creation of fictitious loans exceeding $7 million, along with document forgery and large-scale diversion of cash through shell companies linked to Yamada and associates. Some of the funds are said to have been transferred to an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.

Further claims suggest Yamada set up shell companies in Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Japan using nominees, while maintaining direct control over bank accounts and financial transactions.

The letters note that Cambodian prosecutors have already filed charges in at least two criminal cases against Yamada and others, with court-ordered freezes on certain assets and accounts. Investigations are reportedly ongoing in multiple countries, including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States, examining allegations of embezzlement, breach of trust, document forgery, and money laundering.

The investor urged Cambodian authorities to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation, expressing concern that suspects could attempt to evade justice, intimidate witnesses, or destroy evidence.

The case remains under investigation, and the allegations have not yet been tested in court.
